BENUE WOMAN ON FIRE - MY TAKE by Ukan Kurugh

On Sunday last week, which was 31st of May 2015, NFOB GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT put together an event to honour 60 Benue Women at the Lush Events Centre in Kwararafa Quarters, Makurdi, Benue State.

They tagged it a show of "special, predestined, positively charged women"

The Good
The event was properly organised with an impeccably finished venue. It was like merely walking into the doors of the dome transformed reality into ecstasy. Benue is a land of exquisite beauty. I have heard that also, but the hearing pales compared to the experiencing. Elegant women stepped out adorned in the most beautiful apparels created by designers all over the world. I assure you that if E! Had graced this event their fashion police would not make one arrest - no exaggerations. That was the class level emanated on that day.

The sheer grace of long flowing gowns and the searing heat of bodaciously clad gowns was enough to power a nuclear power plant for centuries.

Jewellery was not left out in this event that transformed Makurdi momentarily into the Milan Fashion Week. For fear of attracting unwanted attention to these women, I would've quoted the net worth of jewellery at the event in millions. In all honesty a valuer would be needed as my estimates might be frugal.

True iconic representation was evident and the events centre as though a live being knew it. One could feel a wave of electricity simmering around. I mean you could whisk most of those women to an event in New York or Paris and they would match the scenery pound for pound in terms of elegance, countenance and achievements. In fact more points will be given for these women fought against the tide of fate itself and succeeded. Listening to the achievements of some of them immediately robbed a few movie scripts of depth and originality. Theirs is a story that deserves endless applause, and save for the sheer impossibility of it I would have engaged in offering them such an applause.

True achievers were awarded, and I was again proud to see the Benue woman shine. It is known fact that middle-beltern women are stronger than their male counterparts; but again, seeing trumped knowing. Amongst those celebrated were PhD candidates and holders, critically acclaimed authors, entrepreneurs who's businesses defied all economic principles to churn out mega profits, whose business ideas would turn Noble Laureates like Paul Friedman into an Economics student. To see how young some of these women were warmed my heart, and I immediately said to myself "this is what the embodiment of strong women entails".

The Bad
Like the Arabic saying goes "everything is paired" and the Women On Fire event was not an exception.

Every smart lawyer when presented with an unwinnable case goes after the integrity of the witness. Keyword being "integrity". You see, the integrity of any entity is as important as the entity itself.

On the list of 60 women I could spot a few that for the life of me didn't deserve a place in the top 1,000 not to mention 60. In a mix that included Benue's first female pilot, entrepreneurs, religious leaders and authors add "unachieved lady" and you have successfully destroyed the integrity of the said mix. It is a classic case of "sand-sand inside garri". The two have no business together whatsoever.

For an event organised to that level of sophistication, it needed to be devoid of ineptitude. It's completeness lies in finishing the run with a touchdown. On that note it didn't deliver.

Closing
Does Benue have fine, elegant, classy women, yes. Were they all recognised last Sunday? No. Will the event go down as a success? Yes. Can the organisers put together something even better? Yes!

On a rating of 1 - 5. 1 being worst and 5 being best. I award the Benue Women on Fire event a 2.5 Mark.

Finally, I urge us all to watch out for its next unveiling as I am sure it will scale this one by a million leaps.
