Mugabe's Son Fined $800 for Culpable Homicide

Grace Mugabe's eldest son was on Friday convicted and fined $800 for culpable homicide, state radio reported. Her son, Businessman Russell Goreraza, 31, knocked down and killed a man while driving "at an excessive speed" in his BMW in Harare in February.
"He admitted to driving at an excessive speed and failing to keep a proper lookout," the report said.

The name of the deceased was not given.

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) said on its website that Goreraza was "remorseful" and claimed to have tried but failed to get hold of the dead man's relatives because people "did not know where he came from."

Goreraza, who has interests in farming and gold mining, is Mugabe's son from her first marriage to Stanley Goreraza, an air force pilot. The first lady and President Robert Mugabe have three children together.

Mugabe is reported not to have been in court on Friday.

Culpable homicide can attract a jail term in Zimbabwe but often does not.
